With faster and more convenient survey and communication technologies, it is possible to provide feedback on specific issues in a relatively short period of time. With decision support surveys, management can capitalize on this technology and get useful feedback on specific issues on which they need to take action.
Decision support surveys are limited in scope (10 to 15 items) and therefore can be developed quickly. Email or web-based administration can help speed through the process. They work extremely well in organizations that already have some other survey program in place (for example, culture change or trend surveys).
Typically, the surveys are administered to people who either will be most affected by the decisions or who have information that will aid in the quality of the decisions to be made. However, if the decision has implications for the entire organization, a general sample of the organization can be considered.
